MESSENGER Messenger was originally installed in 1996 at the Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago)
for its Time Arts, Chicago exhibition. Six separate audio-texts emit from an equal
number of PA speakers arranged in two columns of three, flanking one of the museum's large windows providing a view of
the city. At a distance the simultaneous voices generate a low rumble. Upon approaching each speaker the six separate tracks
are revealed. The following is an excerpt from one of Messenger's audio texts: "... about something
his sister had told him concerning a book she'd learned of through an article in which a girl had reported to her mother
that her father had once mentioned something about how he'd been told by a friend of a letter written by someone who had
described an event that she had seen in which a boy told a story to an acquaintance about a neighbor who had written a note
to her companion that described a meeting her brother had..."
