AUDIENCE
Below is an excerpt from the catalog for the exhibition Takeover:

Audience occupied the space in a second floor studio of the Hyde Park Art Center with the sound of spectators. Shifting from uncontrollable laughter, then jeering and a variety of emotions in between, the multi-channel sound work invited visitors to visualize and imagine the mysterious activity occuring behind the studio's locked doors. It was not a field recording of an actual audience, but one built from individual recordings of the artist playing each of the many characters heard.

AUDIENCE
Below is an excerpt from Margaret Hawkins review in the Chicago Sun Times, Breaking Boundries, May 6, 2006 “M.W. Burns' Audience is a recorded soundtrack of a crowd having a rollicking good time behind a locked door. The recording is a conceptual work only that exists purely in the form of sound and in the imagination of the "viewer," reminding us that our heads are where art really happens.”
